February/March 2012

February into March...Winter into Spring

The stove is still the only thing keeping us warm...we went through about 1.5 cords of wood this winter.

Justin borrowed the neighbors fancy shovel when we didn't get plowed (still not sure why the plow-guy didn't come).  Anyway, Justin loved it so much he did the full driveway!

Odd March weather!

Winter Barn

Warm house in the winter.

Justin worked long and hard to add to the framing of the ceiling in the bathroom to make sure it was level and that we had something to drill into when putting up the drywall.

Ceiling framing from inside of the shower.  That thing has GOT to go!

Chester in a box.  He has such a rough life.

Could this be our new toilet?

Justin finished the wall framing and added wiring for the lights and plugs in the bathroom.

Wiring for an overhead light--something this bathroom didn't have!

Wired bathroom wall...ready for drywall!

Justin is careful with every detail.  These will become the switches...nicely labeled, of course.

Sink layout.

This is called a deadman and is a helpful tool when you have two people putting up drywall on the ceiling!

First piece up in the bathroom--just the two of us got this up!

Short break from drywall--building a birdhouse.

Now that's a birdhouse.

More prepping in the bathroom

Drywall going up...

Hole cut for the bathroom fan.

Outside work for the fan.

Pulled chicken sandwiches outside!  It's spring!

Down comes the old birdhouse.

Up with the new birdhouse!

February

It has been a long time coming, but the entry room is finally drywalled!  Now it needs to get "mud and tape" and then...paint!

Time to get the kitchen wall closed up.  Justin takes down the old drywall.

New drywall up.

Of course, it takes much longer in real life.

Drywall up.  No more door!

This weekend, we're doing some work in the bathroom.  This ceiling must come down so we can rewire for a light (this one no longer works), put in a fan, and put up new drywall.

This wood paneling will come down.  I know it looks nice, but it looks less nice in person.

A few hours later...we've uncovered the plaster.

The plaster ceiling will be coming down...

Plaster down, exposing the wood.

Workers need to eat!  A little winter BBQ.
Buffalo burgers and asparagus.

Justin is wiring the upstairs bathroom for a small "kick heater."

Wiring is ready.

Heater is installed.

Warmth is soon to come.
The wiring continues into the basement.  I suppose the wire has to connect to a power source.
